Covid-19 & Ammanford Foodbank

14th April 2020

3 weeks into the UK lock-down we wanted to let you know how we’re doing.

First and foremost we’re immensely grateful to everyone that has donated, food or financially. Many people have been in touch asking how they can continue to support us from isolation and have been very generous in the gifts they’ve given. Thank you so much for enabling us to buy the food we’ll need.

It is tricky to get hold of the quantities we need to keep our supplies up but The Trussell Trust have been great in doing lots of leg-work facilitating connections with Welsh Government and wholesalers through which we can purchase vast quantities of food without depleting shop shelves. We’re waiting for our first bulk deliver in the next week or so – we’ll show you when it arrives!

Unsurprisingly we’ve seen the vast majority of our volunteers having to isolate – either because they are vulnerable or they look after someone that is. However, once again we’ve been humbled by the number of offers for volunteers by those able to come out. As such we currently are fully manned each week and are looking forward to having everyone back with us once it’s safe to do so.

Looking ahead we’re not sure what the future holds – does anyone really? Many agencies we work with have been fantastic in transferring to an e-referral system meaning that even when they cannot physically see clients, referrals can still be made for those that need them.
We’re really grateful for all the help and support we’ve been given in the last three weeks and know it’s going to continue as we look after our community together.

Diolch yn fawr iawn // Thank you very much
